Process

What you get, and how it gets built.

Every engagement ends the same way: you hold a written, machine-readable spec for your brand — plus the actual assets it was used to produce.

Deliverables

The system, and the proof it works.

  • A DESIGN.md token spec — colours with full ramps, typography scale, spacing grid, radii, elevation, and component recipes.
  • Written rules — do's and don'ts that explain the decisions, so the brand survives without me in the room.
  • Contrast ratios documented — accessibility built into the tokens rather than retrofitted at the end.
  • A component library built from the spec — the pieces your assets are actually assembled from.
  • At least one generated deliverable — a brochure, a poster set, or a batch of social posts — proving the system under real conditions.
  • Print-ready output where applicable: correct bleeds, colour mode, safe margins, and type hierarchy for the printer.
  • The source files, in formats your team and your tools can edit.
  • Full ownership. The DESIGN.md token spec is handed over at the end of every engagement — you own it outright, with no lock-in to me.

Sequence

Four stages, one fixed price.

Scope, deliverables, and price are agreed at stage one. Nothing is open-ended after that.

Stage 01

Brief & fixed price

You send the requirement — the school prospectus, the term's poster run, the monthly post schedule — plus the constraints that matter (print size, deadline, house rules). You get back a scope and a fixed price.

Stage 02

Foundations

Positioning, audience, palette rationale, and the type pairing — agreed as decisions in writing, before any layout work begins. This is the part that stops later assets from fighting each other.

Stage 03

The token spec

Foundations become named tokens: colour ramps, a type scale, spacing on a consistent grid, radii, elevation, and component recipes — each with the reasoning and the contrast check attached.

Stage 04

Generated assets & handover

The deliverables are produced from the spec — press-ready where they go to print — then handed over with the spec itself. Reviews happen before print, not after.

Revisions & scope

Clear boundaries, honestly stated.

Two rounds of revisions are included on every deliverable. Anything beyond that is quoted as a fixed-price add-on and agreed before any extra work starts.

  • Two revision rounds included on each deliverable, covering refinement within the agreed scope.
  • Further rounds are priced as fixed-price add-ons — you approve the cost before the work happens.
  • Scope changes are re-quoted, never absorbed silently — no surprise invoices on either side.
  • The spec is yours at handover. Future assets can be built from it with or without me.

To start

What a brief needs to contain.

The deliverable

What has to exist at the end — a prospectus, a poster set, a month of posts, a brand identity.

The constraints

Print size and finish, the date it must be ready, and any house rules or existing brand assets to honour.

The audience

Who reads it — prospective parents, students, diners, event attendees — and what they should feel when they do.
